Ahmad al-Sharaa's Address to the Syrian Nation

Following a conference yesterday in which Ahmad al-Sharaa (Abu Muhammad al-Jowlani) was declared president of Syria in circumstances that some Syrian observers deemed disappointing and even likened to a coup, al-Sharaa has given an address to the entire nation. It is translated here. Among the main observations:

. Apart from the standard Islamic opening, the speech's framing is secular and nationalist, talking of Syria as a homeland and within the order of nation states.
