Iraq's Jaysh al-Mujahideen, as I have documented previously, is a Salafi faction within the Sunni Arab insurgency aspiring to overthrow the central government. Its rhetoric is explicitly anti-Shi'a in nature (contrasting with JRTN's cross-sectarian messaging), regularly disparaging the 'Rafidite' enemy. The group also featured on social media a training camp it runs. Jaysh al-Mujahideen also denied participating in the non-Islamic State insurgent conference in Amman that was attended by representatives from JRTN and the Islamic Army of Iraq, among other groups. This should perhaps not be surprising in light of the group's tensions with the Islamic Army of Iraq in particular.
Below is a list of claimed recent operations (16-21 July) released via a Twitter support account, which I present so that readers can get a better idea of where the group operates. As is apparent, this correlates with my earlier analysis on the group's maintaining a strong presence in al-Karma in Anbar province. As ever, one needs to be careful here of insurgent spin in which no other group is mentioned by name even in the tweets that imply coordination (e.g. the very last one). The Islamic State has in fact paraded through al-Karma before, and coordination cannot be ruled out, but Jaysh al-Mujahideen has a reason to downplay such a notion in light of past allegations against the Islamic State of extremism.
